Just a quick reminder to everyone...no, let me make that to just a small percentage of us. When we drive around with FF stickers and/or license plates on our cars, people know who we are. These are like billboards on our cars. They may not know what department we work for, or if the car belongs to a family member. Chances are, they don't care. They see a car being driven by a 'firefighter'.
That having been said, I've noticed an increasing number of cars with FF stickers or plates being driven very aggressively and irresponsibly over the last few months. I've seen speeding, weaving through traffic, tailgating, etc.
I'd like to think that it's not any of our people or our families driving like this. I prefer to blame the smaller departments around here...you know, the ones that we can beat up.
If you find yourself getting caught up in the heat of the moment and catch yourself driving like a knucklehead, take a deep breath and remember that people are watching you. If you notice your significant other acting like that, tell 'em to knock it off. If any of your friends on the job are driving like a moron, make them stop.
When people see that you are a firefighter, whether you like it or not, they pay attention. Behavior, both good and bad, is a reflection on you, the department and your profession.
Thanks!!
