The two feet of fresh snow at the Capital and the second week of the 2012 legislative session are both now dwindling away. Although the adverse weather had some legislators sleeping in their offices and getting around town and the Capital Campus was miserable, it barely had an impact on activities in the legislative buildings. A few meetings were cancelled and others delayed, but bills were still introduced and hearings held.
Most significantly, in a House Ways & Means work session Wednesday regarding local government funding, the not so subtle attack on binding arbitration began. While our members trudged through the snow and ice to a full spectrum of emergencies, a county lobbyist suggested that we should be more like Wisconsin and gut key aspects of our interest arbitration dispute resolution process.
